Durham Miners Association present an evening of live music.
The Welfare Collective write songs to celebrate community spirit and working class heritage. They have collaborated with artists of a similar mindset, including Marty Longstaff (The Lake Poets), David Brewis (Field Music) and Drew Michael (Sam Fender) – to name but a few.
They are joined on the setlist by Paul Nowak. At night Birkenhead based singer-songwriter Paul Nowak sings songs about love, politics and cowboys. By day, he has a sideline as the general secretary of the TUC, speaking up for 5.3m union members across Britain. Paul’s debut EP ‘Cowboy Songs’ & follow up ‘People Like You’ are available on Spotify and Bandcamp. https://paulnowak.bandcamp.com/music Facebook.com/musiclivefromtheshed After gigs around Merseyside and London’s Hope and Anchor, Green Note & Betsey Trotwood, Redhills will be Paul’s North East debut. He’ll be joined on the night by one or two mates providing musical support.
Completing the line-up is Stephen Smith, a singer-songwriter and activist from St. Helens, Merseyside. Known for his eclectic, acoustic, folk style, his music frequently addresses social and political issues.
His powerful, lyric-driven songs cover themes of “love, hope, freedom, addiction and peace.” He has notably written protest songs, including “Liar Liar” about the Hillsborough Disaster and ‘When the fire’s gone out’ commemorating the Miners’ Strike. Smith has released several works, including his debut 2011 album ‘Next Train to Nowhere’ and his most recent album, ‘Troubadour’, released in October this year.
