Paula grew up in Easington Colliery and has extensive experience of working with community and voluntary organisations across the Region. Supporting communities and helping them to thrive is important to her and she continues to do this through her current role as Regional Development Manager with the Coalfields Regeneration Trust (CRT).
Established in 1999, and working across coalfield areas in England, Scotland, and Wales, the CRT has five key priorities: community, health, skills, jobs, and climate. Paula describes her role as “adding value to the fantastic work already taking place, linking services up for common good, meeting people who are as passionate as I am, and helping where I can”. She chose to be photographed in the office at CRT Horden Hub House. The cereal boxes on the desk represent one of the many ways the venue provides support for local residents.
Her wish for young women in coalfield communities today is empowerment, resilience and opportunity. “I would love for young women to see themselves as capable leaders, change-makers, and contributors to their communities’ economic, social, and environmental renewal”.
