Visit Us

Redhills is more than a historic building — it’s a place shaped by solidarity. For over a century people have gathered here to organise, debate, celebrate and stand together. As the historic home of the Durham Miners’ Association, that spirit of collective action continues today.

Redhills isn’t a traditional museum with daily opening hours. It’s a working building that comes to life through the events, tours and gatherings held here.

Events

Throughout the year we host talks, performances, exhibitions, film screenings and community events that reflect the culture, history and shared purpose that built Redhills.

Guided Tours

Guided tours are the best way to experience Redhills. Discover the story of the hall, the Durham Miners’ Association and the famous Pitman’s Parliament, brought to life by our guides.

Hire Redhills

Redhills remains a place for people to come together. The building can be hired for meetings, conferences, weddings, workshops and celebrations in a setting built on democracy and collective action.

Plan Your Visit

Find Us

We are approximately a 10 minute walk from the train station and about 6 minutes from Durham’s bus station on North Road.

Redhills has a new entrance to the right hand side of the main building (when facing the building at the front). If arriving on foot, walk through the main entrance gates and around to the right of the building, access is via new automated glass doors.

There are two marked accessible parking spaces on site; one at the front of the main building and one sited near to the new entrance.

We have very limited parking and this varies depending on events happening in the building. We cannot therefore reserve or guarantee parking and you will need to locate nearby parking instead.

  • On street metered parking next door on Flass Street (60p per half hour, free after 6pm).
  • Park and Ride: Durham City Park and Ride – Durham County Council. Open 7am – 7pm, £2.20 day ticket. The nearest stop, Wharton Park on North Road, is located within a short walking distance and is served by the PR1 Sniperley and Belmont Park and Ride bus routes.

Redhills’ site operates a one way vehicle sysytem. Signage will be in place shortly to direct vehicles and pedestrians.

If travelling by vehicle, drive past the main entrance gates on Flass Street and continue up Redhills Lane. Take the first next right up a small, narrow lane. Go past The White House on your left and follow the lane around to the right, behind the row of houses. Very limited parking is available on the left hand side verge of this lane. Once parked, follow the lane downhill and around to the right, access is via the automated glass doors.
